ABOUT ABOUT

We are excited to share information pertaining to our spring musical production of “Mary Poppins” and eager to showcase our incredibly talented cast. The show will be performed on the Fisher stage on Thursday ~ March 21st, Friday ~ March 22nd, and Saturday ~ March 23rd at 7:00 pm. We feature a live orchestra and concessions will be available during intermission. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students/children.

Mary Poppins began as a series of eight children’s books written by P. L. Travers and published between 1934 and 1988. The stories center around the Banks family,  George and Winifred and their children, Jane and Michael, as well as the nanny who magically appears to care for the children. It eventually becomes evident that Mary Poppins is also there to bring the family closer together and to remind George of the magic that is childhood.

The books were adapted during the early 1960’s into a musical film by the Walt Disney Studios. It had taken Walt Disney over 20 years to convince P. L. Travers to allow him to turn her stories into a movie with music, and the special effects incorporated were groundbreaking at that time. The film starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke and is known for its memorable songs, such as A Spoonful of Sugar, Step in Time, Feed the Birds, and Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious. In 2004 the stage musical was produced in London, and then brought to Broadway in 2006, where it ran for seven years.
