Cinderella is the only Rodgers & Hammerstein musical written for television, broadcast live in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, and viewed by more than 100 million people. it was remade for television twice; a 1965 production starred Lesley Ann Warren, and in 1997, singer Brandy starred in the title role, with Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother. It arrived on Broadway in 2013.
After the death of her father, Cinderella is at the beck and call of her cruel Stepmother and lazy Stepsisters. When it is announced that Prince Christopher is hosting a ball, which is really a scheme orchestrated by his mother, Queen Constantina, to find a princess he can marry, Cinderella dreams of attending and meeting the prince.
